Transfer Orientation
Welcome to Sacramento State!
As a new transfer student, you have the opportunity to continue your education in an environment rich with opportunity. Since every university/college is different, your first step is to attend Transfer Orientation. Orientation is required for all transfer students.
Transfer Orientation takes place June 10-24. For specifc dates by major click here. Reservations for Orientation will begin April 2, 2013.
What Happens at Orientation
During Orientation, students will meet with major and General Education advisors and register for fall courses. During these sessions, advisors will discuss academic policies, transferable units and course selection. Students will also have the opportunity to attend workshops about campus departments such as; Housing, Parking, Campus Safety, Career Center Services and Campus Life. By the end of Orientation, students will know university policies and deadlines, academic requirements, campus programs and services, and be familiar with the campus.
Orientation Program Fees
Students: $51
Parent/Guest: $46
Fees for Orientation cover the cost of staffing, parking, refreshments and program materials. Financial aid does not apply to Orientation fees.
Paying Orientation Fees
Pay online (see CashNet below) OR by sending a check or money order with a copy of your confirmation page to: Sacramento State, New Student Orientation, 6000 J Street, Sacramento, CA 95819-6134. Make checks payable to Sacramento State. We cannot accept cash or credit cards the day of your Orientation. Cash can be accepted at Student Financial Services prior to your Orientation session. To confirm your orientation date, orientation fees are due within five days of placing your reservation.
Please note: Refunds can be given only if you request a cancellation in writing at least two business days in advance of your assigned date. You can email us your written cancellation at orient.reservations@csus.edu. Refunds will be processed once a month. For changes in reservations, call (916) 278-7841.
Services to Students With Disabilities
Requests for sign language interpreters, real time captioners, materials in alternative formats, or ADA accommodations should be made at least 10 working days in advance by contacting the Services to Students with Disabilities office at (916) 278-6955 voice or (916) 278-7239 TTY.
Scholarship/Recruited Athletes
All scholarship recruited transfer student-athletes are required to participate in University Orientation programs. Athletic advisors will be available to answer academic and NCAA eligibility questions. Student athletes should also contact their coaches regarding additional summer academic and life skills programs scheduled for August. Clarification: This University Orientation requirement applies to recruited athletes participating in NCAA-sponsored Intercollegiate Athletic Department sports.
Veterans
Student veterans are required to attend New Student Orientation and are encouraged to attend Veteran Orientation on Thursday, June 6th from 7:45am-4:30pm. Student veterans will obtain information regarding General Education and major course requirements, lunch, tour of campus, and will register for fall courses. The Veteran Success Center (VSC) staff will be present to conduct a specific presentation of their services, assist in filing VA claim forms for education benefits, and answer general questions. Students who are unable to attend this session will need to register for one of the Transfer Orientation sessions between June 10th and June 24th. Details on those sessions can be found on this website.
Child Care
Students who are in need of child care (ages 1-5 years) during Orientation may arrange for free child care from the ASI Children's Center. This service is based on space availability and requests for care should be made at least seven working days in advance. For arrangements call the ASI Children's Center at (916) 278-6216. Child care will not be available on Saturdays.
