Transfer Workshop Descriptions
Students and guests attend workshops on a variety of campus programs. If you missed a workshop, all departments will have information tables at lunch.
During Orientation, students and their guests can attend workshops to get information about campus services and programs. These workshops repeat during the day allowing you to attend more than one. Here are descriptions of workshops offered this summer:
Getting Involved on Campus
Make the most of your college experience by getting involved in one or more of our clubs, organizations and recreational activities. Whether you are looking to develop leadership skills, wanting to make new friends and have a good time, or trying to get an edge for future employment, we have a myriad of opportunities for you to check out on campus. College is about more than just the classes, so get involved and be a part of campus life at Sac State.

Here's your chance to get a variety of information about our on-campus housing program and amenities including our newest facility, the American River Courtyard. Career Center staff present an overview of the career services that are critical to student's success. Overview includes information on: Career Center-sponsored events that can enhance a student's ability to relate academics to career options, important updates about today's internships, and how to choose a major or find a part-time job.
Seeking Fun, Adventure and a Global Perspective? Study Abroad!
Learn how you can study in another country while still being enrolled at Sac State. Live and learn in another country as you make progress toward your Sac State major and minor. Take courses in English or learn/become more proficient in another language. Gain a different perspective in your field of study and enlarge your horizons and future opportunities. Gain a competitive edge in the job market. Pay the same CSU registration fees and earn CSU resident units.
Your Money Matters
Most college students struggle with money – we’d like to have more, but we also want to know how to make the most of the little we have! Come meet folks who can show you how to take charge of your finances, for your college years and beyond! There are many choices when it comes to living expenses, student loans, and credit cards. You can make it through college without unnecessary debt. This workshop is a must for your financial future.
Park My Ride (and other cool ways to get to school)
Want to roll like a Sac State Parking Rockstar? Then check out our information session to help increase your parking karma. We’ll give you the rundown on how to use our online services, where to park and most importantly how to avoid receiving parking citations. Not rolling up on your own wheels? That’s cool. We’ll also talk about the Hornet Express Shuttle, Sacramento Regional Transit, Zipcar and other commute choices.
OneCard, One Campus, Endless Possibilities: What your Sac State OneCard can do for you!
From free prints and local transit to food discounts and banking features, your Sac State OneCard offers you many benefits that can help you make the most of your Sac State experience. Join us to learn how to get your card, where you can use it, and how you can activate all of the card's available features.
Veterans and Dependents Connection Workshop
This workshop assists veterans, reservists, and dependents of service-disabled or deceased veterans with their educational benefits. Advice on completing and filing VA claim forms for federal and state education assistance programs will be discussed. An overview of the veteran’s service center and additional support services will also be covered in the workshop.
Athletes: Game Plan for Success
This workshop is designed for recruited/scholarship Student Athletes only. The Student Athlete Resource center (SARC) staff will be on hand to assist in making the academic transition from your previous institution to Sacramento State as seamless as possible. NCAA academic rules will be covered with regards to how they dovetail into your eligibility, major choice, and long term career goals. Please bring updated copies of all of your transcripts.
Making a Difference in Schools and Communities
If you enjoy working with people across the age spectrum and want to make a difference in your community, come and explore the academic and professional programs in the College of Education. With majors and minors in a range of educational fields, you will be on your way to high quality credential and graduate school programs for: teaching elementary through high school students, bilingual teachers, special education teachers, school administrators, school counselors, school psychologists, MFT counselors, career counselors, higher education administrators, early childhood program administrators, vocational rehabilitation counselors, and educational researchers.
Technology at Sac State
Do you have questions about what software a Sac State student needs to succeed? Need to know which computer you should bring to college? Want to know about the resources Sac State offers its students with regards to technology? Join the staff of the Hornet Bookstore to have these and other technology related questions answered.
EOP Transfer Success: Registration Assistance, Mentoring and Learning Communities
This session will provide EOP students who have been admitted into the Education Opportunity Program for Fall 2011 with an overview of program services including: mentoring services, the EOP Transfer Learning Community and practical tools for gearing up for the fall semester.
