Frequently Asked Question: Transfer Students
Q: Why are transfer students required to attend Orientation?
A: Academic advising is critical to student success in general, and helps work toward timely graduation. To help ensure that all new students understand academic policies and General Education and major requirements for graduation, all new students (transfer, returning students and freshmen) are required to attend Orientation.
Parents, spouses or siblings cannot attend Orientation in place of their student. It is important for each student to learn information about and expectations of Sacramento State first-hand.
Q: Is there a disadvantage if I do not attend Orientation?
A: Students who do not attend Orientation will not be eligible to register for classes or attend Sac State.
Q: How do I get information about Orientation mailed to me?
A: All transfer students who have been admitted to Sacramento State and have accepted their admissions by November 1, 2015 automatically will be mailed information about Orientation. If you have not received any information, call (916) 278-7841, Monday through Friday 8:00am-5:00pm.
Q: Is there a deadline to sign up for orientation?
A: Yes December 1, 2015 is the last day for new students to sign up for orientation.
Q: What specifically do my Orientation fees go toward?
A: Your Orientation fees support all program materials, meals, parking and staffing. Financial aid may not be used for Orientation fees.
Q: Can I bring a guest with me?
A: Yes. During Orientation, we offer a separate program for parents and guests. There is a fee for this program. They will attend some sessions on their own and others with you. You can view both the Transfer Student Schedule and the Transfer Parent/Guest Schedule online.
All guests must attend Parent/Guest sessions regardless of their relationship to you (e.g. parent, spouse, partner, friend, etc.). They will not be permitted to attend all activities with you.
Q: Is there anything I need to bring to Orientation?
A: Yes. Please refer to the What to Bring to Orientation page for details.
