Faculty Research Fellows Program Description
The Faculty Research Fellows Program, begun in 1994/95, is a system-wide program that makes the research expertise of the California State University faculty available to the State Senate, the State Assembly, and the Governor's Office. Short-term research projects are funded on policy issues of concern to these state government clients. All participants in the program are encouraged to become part of an informal organization of CSU policy scholars who share their work, their interests, and the challenges and opportunities presented by engaging in state-level policy research. All Faculty Research Fellows Reports originate with a specific request from the California State Assembly, Senate, or Governor's Office.
After receiving a request, the coordinator of the program, with the assistance of the Center for California Studies, drafts a request for proposals (RFP) which is the distributed throughout the 23 campuses that compose the CSU system. The coordinator of the program, with assistance from the designated contacts in the Assembly, Senate, and Governor's Office, reviews the submitted proposals and chooses one for funding. Funding usually ranges from $7,500 to $15,000 for a project that is expected to be completed within six months. The grant is administered through the Center for California Studies at California State University, Sacramento. The Center publishes the completed reports and makes them available to the general public and interested policymakers. Beginning in the fall of 1999, all newly completed reports will also be available on the Web.
