Announcing the 14-15 Teacher of the Year

LegiSchool is pleased to announce our 14-15 Teacher of the Year for civics education! Ms. Margarita Berdeja teaches third grade at Kenmore Elementary School in Baldwin Park Unified School District. She has been teaching for 24 years and currently works in the same district where she attended third grade through high school. She received her BA in Psychology from UC Santa Cruz and MA in Educational Leadership and Administration from Chapman University. Her commitment to civic education is exceptional, and through the years Ms. Berdeja has inspired and encouraged young people in Baldwin Park to achieve their highest potential.

LegiSchool Essay Winners at the Capitol

Each year, LegiSchool's essay contest prompts students to think critically about important poilcy topics in California. Winning students are provided roundtrip travel to the Capitol to attend our annual Legislative Summit.

On April 15, this year's 10 winning essaysist gathered from around the state at the Capitol to speak with policy experts on the topic of climate change. They also received a VIP tour of the building, and met with their local legislators! Thanks to Senator Allen and Assemblymembers Gallagher, Allen, Alejo, Bonta, Chu, and Bloom for taking the time to make their day.
