COOPERATIVE EDUCATION

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the California State University Sacramento Cooperative Education program, in partnership with faculty and employers, serves two purposes:

  1. To provide upper division and graduate students with paid, degree-enhancing, professional work experience: and
  2. To foster the career development of lower division students.

This mutually beneficial relationship encourages student growth by providing opportunities that link classroom theory with work world practice. Cooperative Education empowers students to make informed career decisions and move toward achieving an advantage in a competitive job market while earning academic credit.

DEFINITION

The Cooperative Education program works with students and employers to help students find paid Co-op positions, which relate to their academic majors.

How are Co-ops different from Internships?

Co-ops differ from internships in that internships can be paid or unpaid, may or may not be for credit, and a student at any class level may participate in an internship. Co-ops are always paid, are for credit, and are for Junior, Senior, or Graduate students. Co-ops are high-level positions that allow students to apply what they have learned in their field.
