Kaiser Volunteer Program

Kaiser Permanente, working in collaboration with the Sacramento State Career Center, hopes to offer over 50 Sacramento State students the opportunity to support and assist the Emergency Department patients, families, and staff from the time a patient arrives in the Emergency Department until they are discharged. Students will be exposed to many different components of healthcare while developing a variety of skills.

Benefits of Volunteering

  • Teamwork – observe, learn and be a part of ours
  • Communication – improve your skills by interacting with diverse staff and community members
  • Crisis management – learn how to help us help our patients and their loved ones in their time of need
  • Prioritization – when tasked with multiple items, what do you do first? We will teach you.
  • Confidence – what you learn from the benefits above will give you a life experience unlike no other, no matter your field of study

Step 3.

On Thursday, May 18, 2017 you will receive notification if you been selected to move to the second phase of the selection process, if you have not been selected, or you may not hear from me at all.

  • If selected, you will be email with your acceptance and must accept in order to proceed to the next phase of the process by 12:00 a.m. (Noon) on Friday, May 19, 2017. If you do not accept or we do not get a response from you, we will then assume you have denied your placement and your spot will be given to an alternate student.
  • If your application is not complete or competitive then you will get an email stating your application was not selected to move foward in the program. At this point, I would recommend setting up an appointment with Emanuel Melgarejo (melgarejo@csus.edu) to go over other options.
  • If you do not hear from me by Thursday, May 18, 2017 then that means you application is competitive and has been placed on the waitlist with a chance of being placed if selected students do not accept their placement.
  • You may also be offered a spot on the waitlist which means you may still have a chance of getting an opportunity to gain a spot but it is not guaranteed. You will receive a notification the week of Monday, May 22, 2017 outlining if you have been placed in the alternate list which may still result in you given an opportunity to volunteer.

Step 4.

All students who accept moving on to the second phase of the process will be required to attend a mandatory Kaiser Permanente On-site Orientation on Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 10am - 5:30pm.
