The goal of career counseling at the Career Center is to help students learn how to make informed decisions in their educational and career choices. Those decisions should  reflect students’ personal goals, values, and interests, and should lead toward satisfying academic work in their major and a fulfilling career.

The Career Center offers drop-in and individual career counseling services for students and alumni. Career counseling includes a wide range of services, helping students:

  • Explore job and educational options on their own
  • Research academic and career options
  • Make decisions about majors and potential careers
  • Develop action steps toward their career and educational goals
  • Take part in experiential learning opportunities
  • Learn job search strategies and resources

If you would like assistance with choosing or changing a major or career path, relating majors to the world of work, or are trying to make a decision about graduate school, career counseling may be right for you.

Career counseling services at Sacramento State are available to assist students and alumni in any of the following areas:

  • Choosing or changing a major or career path
  • Finding and applying for internships and other experiential learning opportunities
  • Learning job search strategies
  • Writing, critiquing, and revising resumes and cover letters
  • Learning and practicing interview skills, strategies and techniques
  • Assessing skills, values, and interests
