ON-CAMPUS RECRUITMENT TIPS

1. Be sure your Career Connection academic profile is correct.
  • Degree Level: enter the degree you are working towards
  • Major: enter your major
  • Graduation Date: enter your expected graduation peroid
  • Year In School: must be a senior, graduate student, or alumni
  • GPA: how to calculate your major GPA
  • Citizenship: enter in the Work Authorization

To change or update your academic profile:

    Log onto Career Connection

    Click "Profile"

    Click "Academic Information" tab

2. Get your resume reviewed at the Career Center before your upload it

  • Walk-in Appointments (Monday-Friday 8:00-4:30pm Lassen 2000)
  • View example resumes to use as a guide to create a resume
  • You may upload multiple resumes onto Career Connection

3. Research the company you want to interview with before the interview. Such as:

  • company mission
  • company history
  • position description
  • position qualifications

4. Dress professionally and bring copies of your resume on resume paper.

5. After each interview, send a thank you letter to each of the interviewing recruiters.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PARTICIPATE?

You are required to attend a one hour Orientation Workshop prior to interviewing on-campus. Workshops are offered regularly throughout the semester. Sign up for OCR, to attend a workshop sign up on Career Connection.

Register for an Orientation Workshop via Career Connection. Then complete a profile and upload a resume online.

WHEN CAN I SIGN-UP AND/OR SUBMIT A RESUME?

Refer to the dates on the resume submission event sign-up at the top of the job listing for each company that you want to interview with. IF YOU SIGN UP FOR A TIME SLOT, YOU ARE COMMITTED TO INTERVIEW. ANY LATE CANCELLATIONS OR NO-SHOWS WILL RESULT IN THE LOSS OF YOUR INTERVIEW PRIVILEGES AT THE CAREER CENTER FOR A PERIOD OF TIME .

WHEN IS THE LAST DAY TO SIGN-UP AND/OR SUBMIT A RESUME?

Refer to the deadlines on the resume submission event sign-up at the top of the job listing for each company that you want to interview with. Typically, you will have 12 days to sign-up for interviews that are "open" interviews.

IF I SIGN-UP OR SUBMIT A RESUME, HOW WILL I KNOW IF I HAVE AN INTERVIEW?

If you successfully sign-up for an interview at a particular time on an open schedule, you are immediately guaranteed an interview at that time on the date of the event provided you have an on-line resume. Check on Career Connection, under "Scheduled OCR Interviews" for confirmation.

If you successfully submitted a resume for a preselect schedule AND if you are contacted via phone, e-mail, or in your Personal Reminders box, you are guaranteed that interview.

WHERE ARE THE INTERVIEWS AND WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE?

All interviews are held in the interview rooms located in the Career Center (Lassen Hall, Room 2000). Plan to arrive at least fifteen minutes before your scheduled time, dressed appropriately (business professional).

SHOULD I BRING A COPY OF MY RESUME TO THE INTERVIEW?

YES, it should be professional in appearance (on resume grade paper, no spelling or punctuation errors, with a cover letter), preferably already reviewed by a Career Counselor.

WHAT IF I MISS OR NEED TO CANCEL AN INTERVIEW?

If you need to cancel an interview, you may do so on Career Connection (under scheduled OCR interviews), however you must do so prior to the sign-up deadline. If you cancel within 24 hours or, if you fail to show up for a scheduled interview, your interviewing privileges will be suspended until you write an apology letter to the company and bring the letter with a stamped addressed envelope to the Career Center. If you fail to show up a second time, your privileges for interviewing will be suspended for the remainder of the semester.

HOW CAN I GET HELP PREPARING FOR AN UPCOMING INTERVIEW?

PRACTICE….PRACTICE….PRACTICE. Our Mock Interviews and workshops are strongly suggested to gain the polish and confidence you need to be successful. They are offered throughout the semester. Also, see a Career Counselor if you have some specific questions regarding your career search.
