The Process Of Making A Decision About A
Major or Career Path

The Career Center's staff is available for students who are undeclared or who are in the process of deciding about their choice of major/career field. Begin by stopping by the Career Center for a drop-in session with one of our career counselors. Career Center Locations & Hours

Get to Know yourself:

  • What are your interests?
  • What classes have you enjoyed in school?
  • What activities/skills have you enjoyed doing the most?
  • What are your hobbies or things you like to do for fun?
  • What types of jobs or careers are people involved in around you?
  • What are your natural talents?
  • What have you dreamed about doing?
  • What pressures or influences are you experiencing about school, major, or career direction?
  • How do majors relate to the world of work?
  • What do I major in if I am interested in a certain career field or occupation?
  • Use resources to research career options and academic programs.
  • Use resources to make educational and career decisions.
  • Meet with an Advisor in the departments of the majors that you are considering.
  • Students make decisions everyday. Choosing a major and/or a career field essentially involves the decision-making process.
  • The effectiveness of choosing a major and career field relies on information available to you at the point you are making your decision.
  • Information about yourself, college majors, and the world of work will be helpful to you as you go through the process of choosing a major and/or career field.
