occupations and career fields. In addition, the Internet,
Sacramento State Library, and Academic Departments are excellent
sources of information. Informational interviews are a helpful
tool to learn about what people do at work. |
It’s Okay to Change Your Major
| Both the Career Center and the Academic Advising
Center can assist students who are in the process of changing
their major. Many students experience learn more about themselves
as they progress through college. The first major choice does
not always match the new vision for their education or career
goals |

Sometimes students feel pressure from family,
friends, significant others, and/or society to choose or not
choose a certain major or career field. It can be a difficult
process on your own – career counselors and academic advisors

have really excited you? What are your personal and work values?
What courses have you enjoyed in school? Career counselors

Ethnic Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Humanities and Religious
Studies, and History to name a few) acquire a broad range
of skills that employers find invaluable in today's work environment.
The communication, organizational, writing and problem-solving
skills that are developed in college are immensely valued
by employers. |
Make Majors & Minors Work for You
| Some occupations require specific majors, coursework,
or certifications. However, many occupations and fields are
open to more than one (or all) majors. The combination of
a major and a minor can provide you with the skills and knowledge
needed to meet your educational and career goals. |
