Undeclared

Career counseling services are available to assist undeclared students through the process of choosing and/or changing their major/career path. Career counseling services provide proven strategies and resources for choosing or changing a major, including:

1)    Self-exploration
2)    Researching academic programs and options
3)    Developing alternative plans to accomplish your goals
4)    Identifying career options for your major and fields of interest
5)    Relating your major to the world of work

Our goal is to assist you with major and career exploration to ensure a timely declaration of major and avoid a registration hold.

If you have 60+ units and have not declared a major, a registration hold will be placed on your record until you do a drop-in with a Career Counselor in the Career Center or declare a non-impacted major.

Are You Interested in an Impacted Major?

Major/Program Impaction is when the number of applications from fully eligible students to a designated major far exceeds the number of spaces available in that major. You will be given the designation of Expressed Interest (EI) until you are formally accepted into the program by the major department. See below for more information.

  • EI=Undeclared

Three very important steps to consider when pursuing an impacted Major/Program:

STEP 1. Seek advising in the Academic Advising Center early and often.

STEP 2. To apply to an impacted Major/Program you:

  • Must successfully complete specific pre-requisites or equivalents
    • Assist.org will provide you with course equivalencies if you plan to take or have taken the pre-requisites at a community college
  • Must meet the minimum GPA and complete unit requirements
    • Meeting the minimum GPA does not guarantee admissions to the program
    • Exceeding the minimum GPA requirement is highly recommended

STEP 3. Submit a supplemental application

  • Visit department website for program information, important dates and deadlines
