Marty Coleman-Hunt

Marty Coleman-Hunt is a Special Consultant with the Center assisting with strategic planning issues. She has nearly 25 years working in non-profit, government and private business sectors as a strategic planning and communications professional. She began her career by joining the staff of Dianne Feinstein, then Mayor of San Francisco as public communications officer for a campaign about toxics in the workplace.

Her community and government positions include strategic planning and branding for several non-profit organizations and the Nevada County community economic redevelopment council. She developed the strategic plan and community vision for the rehabilitation and repurposing of the Julia Morgan-designed North Star Mine mansion, built in 1905 to create a Grass Valley community amenity. She held a Board of Directors seat for Special Olympics and also for the Foundation for Women Entrepreneurs.

On the business side, she ran entire corporate public relations functions at two major computer companies and three of the largest global public relations agencies, and she owned her own opinion research and strategic communications consulting firm. During the 1990s she led marketing for the launch of several technology and Internet start-ups, and green businesses in the mid-2000s.

When not working for the Center for Collaborative Policy, Marty is currently executive director for Nevada County Land and manages 6,500 acres in of land in conservation easements, 13 miles of community trails and a variety of community education programs on land conservation. She works closely with communities across the California Sierra Foothills and organizations such as Sierra Business Council, Sierra Nevada Conservancy, Trust for Public Land and The Nature Conservancy. This work focuses on helping communities who are wrestling with transitional issues, moving from a resource-extraction based economy, to a mixed tourism and affluent retirement economy.

In 2007 she attended the Sierra Leadership Institute and was trained in advanced facilitation. In 2003 she was given the Leadership Award from TWIN (Tribute to Women in Industry) in San Jose. In 1995 she participated in the “2020” Leadership Forum and again in 1997 with Catalyst Leadership Training.

Marty has a Master of Arts degree in Communications from San Francisco State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psycholinguistics from University of California Santa Cruz. Known as a high-energy, dynamic professional, with an attitude that nothing is impossible, she leads by generating ideas, by smart planning, by solving complex problems, and by inspiring people to succeed.
