Sac State Serves is a community service program open to the campus community. Faculty, staff, students, and alumni are invited to take part in local, single-day service projects throughout the year.

February 18, 2012: Mega Cookie Drop

Mega Cookie Drop

Love Thin Mints and Caramel Delights and many of the other Girl Scout Cookies? Now is your chance to be a part of an American tradition of Girl Scout Cookie Season to help get these cookies delivered to people all over the Sacramento region.

On Saturday, February 18, Sac State Serves will be helping the 100 year old Girl Scouts USA organization manage the task of getting cookies to local scouts for their annual fundraiser. Volunteers are needed to help load cookies into delivery vehicles at this drive through, one stop cookie drop. Two volunteer shifts are available; individuals must be at least age 18 or older to volunteer.

Monday, January 16, 2012: MLK Day of Service/Harvest Sacramento

Sac State Serves spent Martin Luther King, Jr. Day volunteering to better our community. Volunteers supported Harvest Sacramento in picking and boxing fruit from residential fruit trees in local Sacramento neighborhoods. Afterwards, volunteers Afterwards, volunteers were treated to Harvest Sacramento's community celebration with food, music and conversation. Over 4400 pounds of harvested fruit was donated to local food assistance programs which provide emergency food supplies to Sacramento area residents.

 

Friday, November 11, 2011: Meals on Wheels by ACC

In recognition of Veterans day, 22 volunteers prepared and packaged meals for homebound senior citizens, including Veterans, who depend on Meals on Wheels to maintain their independence and receive nutritious meals. Meals on Wheels by ACC provides five meals a week to 2300 senior citizens; having processed 6,680 meals, our volunteers a hand in feeding over 1,300 seniors for a week.

Saturday, October 22, 2011: Halloween Haunt

33 volunteers contributed over 200 hours as a group supporting this youth safety education program fundraiser. Volunteers ran games, painted faces, inspired art, and added the "spook" to a harvest maze for this spook-fest of a good time at a minitature town built especially for small children.

 

Saturday, September 17, 2011: Great American River Clean Up

The American River Parkway Foundation supports the preservation, protection, enhancement and appreciation of the parkway's natural resources. On Saturday, September 17, from 9 am - noon, over 120 students, staff, and alumni took part with Sac State Serves in the ARP Foundation's annual Great American River Cleanup. Volunteers of all ages removed trash and debris along the river near Howe Avenue and Sac State's Alumni Grove to help prevent pollutants from entering the watershed, harming wildlife, or creating hazards for recreational users.

July 2011: World Masters Althletics Championships

Sacramento hosted 5,000 athletes from over 90 countries. Over the course of 5 days (July 11, 12, 14, 15, & 16), 22 Sac State Serves volunteers gave over 200 hours to help welcome athletes and support the event on and off the field.2011 World Masters Athletics Champiionships Sacramento, CA  (Logo)

 

Sunday, June 26, 2011: S.O.S. (Save Our Shelter) "Flea" Market

Sac State Serves' volunteers helped to expand this second annual charity fundraiser from a one to two day event, aiding in everything from set up and parking to selling baked goods and items donated by the Sacramento community. Proceeds will benefit the 15,000 animals that enter the Sacramento County Animal Shelter each year.

Saturday, May 21, 2011: Homeless Connect

Sac State Serves joined hundreds of volunteers for Sacramento Steps Forward's Homeless Connect 2011, a one-stop resource event estimated to have served 800 homeless folks. These men, women, and children accessed a myriad of services including housing, legal assistance, health and dental, haircuts and foot washing, employment services, clothing closets, information booths, and more! Sac State Serves volunteers were instrumental in supporting guest check in, healthcare hospitality, and guiding guests through resource stations.

 

Saturday, February 12, 2011: Sacramento Ronald McDonald House "Outdoor Work Party"

Ronald McDonal House Cahrities, Northern California37 Sac State volunteers took part in the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House Outdoor Work Party, a volunteer effort to trim small trees and bushes, pull weeds, pick up trash, and help keep the grounds at the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House beautiful for the families of children who are currently undergoing medical treatment.

Saturday, November 13, 2010: Soil Born Farms Urban Agriculture and Education Project

Sacramento State came out to show its "thanks" this November by volunteering with Sac State Serves as we supported Soil Born Farm's American River Ranch. Soil Born Farms, the non-profit Urban Soil Born Farms logo - tree and farm neext to urban buildingsAgriculture and Education Project, has provided over 10,000 pounds of fresh produce to Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services (SFBFS) this year. Twenty volunteers participated in a fall cleanup and basic maintenance at the local organic farm, including weeding, sheet mulching propogation areas, and processing a recent bean harvest. Sac State Serves also took part in SFBFS' "Holiday Spirit of Giving Drive," and collected toys, food, and clothing throughout the month.

 

Saturday, October 23, 2010: Halloween Haunt

The 19th Annual Halloween Haunt benefited Youth Safety Education Programs at Safetyville USA. This event was halloween Haunt logo - grinning pumpkin facesspook-tacular fun with music, games, pumpkin picking, a magic show and a costume parade in Safetyville’s miniature town, built at a smaller scale especially for children. Volunteers worked the ticket booth, ran children’s games and raffle, supervised children in the corn maze, served food and refreshments, painted faces, and more!

Saturday, August 28, 2010: Race for the Arts

Race for the Arts logo - running shoes The Race for the Arts' 5 km Run/Walk and Children's Fun Runs in William Land Park sought to raise funds, increase awareness and help build audiences for school and community arts programs. Sac State Serves supported this effort by volunteering as course monitors, setting up and distributing water to runners/walkers, timing racers and distributing ribbons at the finish line, and assisting with post-race food and beverage service.

 

Saturday, July 24, 2010: Ice Cream Safari

Sac State Serves had a wild time at the Sacramento Zoo's Ice Cream Safari. Sac State Serves' volunteers helped scoop ice cream, paint faces, serve refreshments and more, while enjoying plenty of complimentary ice cream as we supported this fundraiser for the Zoo. This year the Ice Cream Safari raised money to help upgrade the Zoo's Otter exhibit.

Saturday, April 17, 2010: Creek Week

Sac State Serves took part in Creek Week for a fun morning of river and riparian area trash cleanup and removal of invasive plant species to restore many of Sacramento County’s creeks. The event was followed by an afternoon volunteer celebration hosted by the Creek Week organization.

 

Saturday, March 13, 2010: Sacramento Ronald McDonald House

Ronald McDonal House Cahrities, Northern California The Sacramento Ronald McDonald House Outdoor Work Party is a volunteer effort to trim small trees and bushes, pull weeds, pick up trash, etc. and help keep the grounds at the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House beautiful for the families of children who are currently undergoing medical treatment. Despite inclement weather the day before, 14 students, staff, and alumni enjoyed beautiful spring weather and represented Sacramento State for our very first Sac State Serves' community service day.
