Sac State Serves is a community service program open to the campus community. Faculty, staff, students, and alumni are invited to take part in local, single-day service projects throughout the year.

Thursday, May 1, 2014: Sac State's 5K Fun Run
Sac State Serves volunteers helped with the annual 5K Fun Run that takes place in Sac State. They helped with set up and take down, the inflation of the arch that marked the start/ finish line, as well as helped in the distribution of water and food to the tired runners.
Saturday, April 18, 2014: Beer and Chili Festival
Sac State volunteers took part in the Sacramento Beer and Chili Festival hosted at Fremont Park. They helped with set up, take down, bicycle vallet, kids zone, and serving chili! They also watched over the children play area and helped hide eggs for an easter egg hunt set up for the children to enjoy.
Saturday, February 22, 2014: St. John's Playground Kaboom
Sac State Serves volunteers shoveled gravel and mulch, as well as layed it out all over the play area to helped build a playground for the children, who will reside at a new location center of St. John's Shelter Program for Woman and Children.
Saturday, January 11, 2014: Sacramento Ronald McDonald House Outdoor Work Party
Sac State volunteers took part in the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House Outdoor Work Party, a volunteer effort to trim small trees and bushes, pull weeds, pick up trash, and help keep the grounds at the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House clean and beautiful for the families of children who are currently undergoing medical treatment.
Monday, November 25, 2013: Food Bank Turkey Distribution
In preperation for the Thanksgiving holiday, Sacramento Food Bank hosted the 6th annual Turkey Distribution. Sacramento families went in hopes of recieving a turkey along with two bags full of Thanksgiving side dishes. Sac State volunteers helped food bank clients, who are disabled or struggling, in carrying their turkey and grocery bags to their location.
Sunday, October 27, 2013: Safe & Super Halloween
Sac State Serves' volunteers (including a cat, gnome, bee, and Dr. Suess' thing's 1 & 2) distributed candy throughout the park for Fairytale Town's littlest trick-or-treaters. Fifteen Sac State students and their guests helped wrap up this three day event providing a fun, family-friendly Halloween themed activity.
Saturday, August 3, 2013: Color Run
Back by popular demand, Sac State Serve stook on this head to toe color extravaganza! The Color Run is a 5K course where runners/walkers are dusted with different colored powders as they progress to the finish line; though volunteers may end up wearing more color than the racers! Sacramento’s Color Run helped raise funds for the non-profit organization, Girls on the Run.
Thursday, July 18, 2013: Mobile Food Distribution
Sac State volunteers supported Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services' Mobile Food Distribution event helping with event set up/cleanup, unloading the truck, and bagging and handing out food. In total, food was provided to 177 families, equaling up to 830 individuals.
Saturday, June 1, 2013: Street Fair
Volunteers helped with set up, booths and activities, and refreshment stations for the North Sacramento Family Resource Center's 11th Annual Uptown Street Fair to provide families with a free, fun way to learn about health, safety, and preventative community resources.
Saturday, May 18, 2013: Farms & Friends Go Green
13 Sac State volunteers supported Fairytale Town's "Farms & Friends go Green" event. Volunteers helped with event set up/cleanup, staffed activities including arts and crafts, greeted and directed guests, and served as the mascot for this "magical day" celebrating agriculture and the environment.
Saturday, April 6, 2013: Chili Festival
Sacramento Artists Council’s Beer and Chili Festival raised funds to help keep art and music in public schools. Volunteers helped set up, and staffed the bicycle valet, kid’s zone, participant admissions, and served chili.
Saturday, February 2, 2013: Discovery Museum Day
66 Sac State volunteers supported this biggest museum event of the year. Volunteers directed guests and parking, set up and monitored exhibits, assisted with presentations, staffed tables, and more for a combined 317 hours of service!
Saturday, October 27, 2012: Horse Rescue
Volunteers moved fences, built corrals, and did some heavy lifting to help a fully volunteer supported non-profit organization, All About Equine Animal Rescue. Two miniature horses were even able to use their new round exercise pen before we left!
Saturday, Agust 4, 2012: Color Run
The Color Run is a 5K course where runners/walkers are dusted with different colors as they progress to the finish line. While Color Runs take place all over the country, each one benefits a local charity; Sacramento’s Color Run raised funds for the non-profit organization, Girls on the Run.
Saturday, June 23, 2012: Chef Challenge
During the 10th Annual Sacramento Chef Challenge, professional chefs competed head to head in a live culinary competition and guests sampled from over 100 local restaurants, wineries, and breweries. Volunteers helped set up, support vendors, sell tickets, and more for this fundraising event benefitting INALLIANCE, a non-profit providing services to adults with disabilities.
Sunday, May 20, 2012: Day on the Farm
Volunteers supported Soil Born Farm's annual harvest kick off and community celebration, featuring a farm stand, cooking classes, tours and nature walks, entertainment, hands on activities, and community education tables. Volunteers checked in bikes and strollers at the valet section, directed patrons to the event and parking, and supervised children who participated in field activities.
Saturday, April 28, 2012: Girl Scouts' 100th Anniversary Celebration
Inspired by the 1 million boxes of cookies our volunteers helped distribute during the February Mega Cookie Drop, Sac State Serves' volunteers supervised and assisted with a variety of games, activities, and demonstrations to ensure over 12,000 scouts had a safe, and memorable experience.

Volunteers helped distribute over 1 million boxes of cookies to local Girl Scout troops for their annual fundraiser by directing traffic, communicating with drivers, and loading cookies into delivery vehicles.
Monday, January 16, 2012: MLK Day of Service/Harvest Sacramento
Sac State Serves spent Martin Luther King, Jr. Day volunteering to better our community. Volunteers supported Harvest Sacramento in picking and boxing fruit from residential fruit trees in local Sacramento neighborhoods. Afterwards, volunteers Afterwards, volunteers were treated to Harvest Sacramento's community celebration with food, music and conversation. Over 4400 pounds of harvested fruit was donated to local food assistance programs which provide emergency food supplies to Sacramento area residents.
Sarurday, December 10, 2011: Flapjack 5K
Sac State Serves volunteers spent a frosty morning as course monitors cheering on racers big and small for this family friendly fun run and pancake breakfast benefiting Caleb Greenwood Elementary.
Friday, November 11, 2011: Meals on Wheels by ACC
In recognition of Veterans day, 22 volunteers prepared and packaged meals for homebound senior citizens, including Veterans, who depend on Meals on Wheels to maintain their independence and receive nutritious meals. Meals on Wheels by ACC provides five meals a week to 2300 senior citizens; having processed 6,680 meals, our volunteers a hand in feeding over 1,300 seniors for a week.
Saturday, October 22, 2011: Halloween Haunt
The 19th Annual Halloween Haunt benefited Youth Safety Education Programs at Safetyville USA
. This event was spook-tacular fun with music, games, pumpkin picking, a magic show and a costume parade in Safetyville’s miniature town, built at a smaller scale especially for children. Volunteers worked the ticket booth, ran children’s games and raffle, supervised children in the corn maze, served food and refreshments, painted faces, and more!33 volunteers contributed over 200 hours as a group supporting this youth safety education program fundraiser. Volunteers ran games, painted faces, inspired art, and added the "spook" to a harvest maze for this spook-fest of a good time at a minitature town built especially for small children.
Saturday, September 17, 2011: Great American River Clean Up
The American River Parkway Foundation supports the preservation, protection, enhancement and appreciation of the parkway's natural resources. On Saturday, September 17, from 9 am - noon, over 120 students, staff, and alumni took part with Sac State Serves in the ARP Foundation's annual Great American River Cleanup. Volunteers of all ages removed trash and debris along the river near Howe Avenue and Sac State's Alumni Grove to help prevent pollutants from entering the watershed, harming wildlife, or creating hazards for recreational users.
July 2011: World Masters Althletics Championships
Sacramento hosted 5,000 athletes from over 90 countries. Over the course of 5 days (July 11, 12, 14, 15, & 16), 22 Sac State Serves volunteers gave over 200 hours to help welcome athletes and support the event on and off the field.
Sunday, June 26, 2011: S.O.S. (Save Our Shelter) "Flea" Market
Sac State Serves' volunteers helped to expand this second annual charity fundraiser from a one to two day event, aiding in everything from set up and parking to selling baked goods and items donated by the Sacramento community. Proceeds will benefit the 15,000 animals that enter the Sacramento County Animal Shelter each year.
Saturday, May 21, 2011: Homeless Connect
Sac State Serves joined hundreds of volunteers for Sacramento Steps Forward's Homeless Connect 2011, a one-stop resource event estimated to have served 800 homeless folks. These men, women, and children accessed a myriad of services including housing, legal assistance, health and dental, haircuts and foot washing, employment services, clothing closets, information booths, and more! Sac State Serves volunteers were instrumental in supporting guest check in, healthcare hospitality, and guiding guests through resource stations.
Saturday, February 12, 2011: Sacramento Ronald McDonald House "Outdoor Work Party"
