Health Education Department Student Internships
The Health Education Department has been an integral part of the Student Health Center since 1978. All Health Education programs provide direct client services, health information, literature, referral, outreach and special events. Our goal in Health Education is:
- To enhance student health status and respond to student health needs through the use of educational programs, strategies and materials.
- To expand the role of the SHC to be an educational learning site as well as a health care facility.
- To offer students an opportunity to function as peer health educators under the supervision of professional Health Education staff.
The Health Education Department offers student internships in the following content areas:
- Alcohol, Tobacco & Other drugs (Peer Health Educators/PHEs)
- Sexual Health
- Wellness
Internships are designed as an academic related learning activity and provide an opportunity to:
- be part of a health education team
- develop and provide educational presentations
- expand one's health knowledge
- explore working in the health field
- earn academic units
- enhance communication, teaching, group process skills
- have fun
- help fellow students/peers
- participate in outreach activities which would develop and/or enhance skills in publicity, public relations, and in planning and implementing educational programs or special events.
- Interest in health education and college health issues
- Two-semester commitment- Fall 2005-Spring 2006.
- Completion of summer assignment
- Attendance at weekly staff in-service meetings.
- Attendance at two-day training program in August 2005
- Able to perform student intern job duties and be accountable by adhering to Health Center policies and Program Supervisor.
- This program may be taken for 1-3 units per semester. Each unit equals approximately 3 hours per week. Units may be earned through Interdisciplinary (ID) 195A or through am academic departments arranged by you.
- Complete an application. Attach resume if you have one. Click here to download an application which can be filled out on your computer, then printed, or can be emailed as attachment to cyndra@csus.edu.
- Turn it in at the Health Education Department, Room 122 main Student Health Center.
- Applications are reviewed and selected applicants are scheduled for an interview.
- Complete interview with Program Manager.
- Selection process finalized in May/early June.
- Complete summer assignment.
- Attend two-day training in August.
- Ready to begin internship first day of semester
