PLACE-BASED PROGRAMS - Connecting learning to local places
An integrated set of place-based educational programs and media resources, the CHANGING PLACES initiative seeks to enhance public understanding about environmental change and our place in nature by enhancing existing educational and interpretive programs at state and national parks, museums, and science centers throughout California. By creating high quality multi-platform digital media for visitors and interpretive staff that are linked to the project’s broadcast series, Reinventing California, Changing Places will connect people to the places where they live, work, and play – and to nature itself.

Created to reach school, park, museum, and science center audiences at regional sites across California, each place-based program will consist of short films, video podcasts, a compendium of K-12 instructional materials, and print media that are delivered on-site or online through the CELP Educational Portal. Programs are conceptually linked to the broadcast series, and scaled – both in content and media format – to environmental change phenomena throughout California. |
Each place-based program will be developed by scientists, educators, media professionals, and outreach advisors working in collaborative partnerships with local stakeholders who have site-specific knowledge.
