What Happens After I Apply?

Now that you have applied for admission to Sac State, you might be wondering “What’s next?” You should monitor your application’s status and do a few things to help make sure you’re prepared for your admission decision. Check out the “I Have Applied” section of our web site.


Create online account: When becoming part of Sac State’s online community, everyone needs to get a 'My Sac State' account (available only to applicants). My Sac State is the one-stop online access point for campus resources. You can get information on your admission status from anywhere in the world, any time of day. After you apply, you will receive an acknowledgement that your application has been received, which will contain your Sac State ID number along with information on how to set up an account.
Check status:Be sure to check your My Sac State page frequently to ensure your application is complete. We will request documents by notifying you through My Sac State's To Do List. If something you submitted doesn't show up, check with us to find out why.
Make updates or changes: : Send us information about any significant updates or changes to your application before the deadline. For instance, if your class schedule changes in the fall or spring semester before you plan to enter Sac State, please send us a letter and/or transcript. Remember that we might also need to get in touch with you for other reasons—that's why it's important for you to update the contact information in your My Sac State account when anything changes.
Complete other processes: Begin or complete any other Sac State-related processes such as applying for housing, applying for financial aid and scholarships, applying for the honors program for freshmen, or completing placement exams. As with the application itself, the sooner you finish these other processes, the better. And while you are waiting for a decision, if you haven't yet done so, come join us for a campus tour!
Wait for a decision: Relax and continue to watch your application status for your admission decision. Admission decisions for the fall term are posted on or soon after March 1st of each year. We'll also mail your decision to your permanent address. Sometimes applicants worry when their friends or classmates hear from us before they do. But not hearing from us is not necessarily a bad sign. Because we evaluate each application individually, the process varies for each applicant.

Accept admission: When you are officially admitted to Sac State, first congratulate yourself, and tell your friends, family, and loved ones. Then, let us know you plan to attend by clicking on the accept admission button located in your My Sac State student center by May 1. Check the “I Have Been Admitted” page for important information.
