Title: "SONOVATM 400: High GLA (gamma-linolenic) safflower from lab to market"

Abstract:

Arcadia Biosciences has engineered a high-GLA safflower. GLA offers dietary support for a wide range of inflammatory conditions such as cardiovascular health, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, eczema and neurological disorders.

Evening primrose and borage have been the traditional sources for GLA.  These species have relatively low seed yields which contributes to short supply, high costs and limited marketability of this fatty acid.

Our goal was to provide a competitive source of GLA. The project from bench to market was completed in a little over five years the fastest time to market of any plant biotech product.

Sonova 400TM is a GLA dietary supplement containing 400 mg GLA/g of oil.  It is a blend of the oil from a “high GLA” transgenic safflower (with as much as 73% GLA), adjusted with high oleic safflower oil.  SONOVA 400TM is now marketed in the US.
