Research

My research is focused on the development of novel branched sugar-based polymers, known as glycodendrimers, as potential therapeutic agents.  Much of the current work in the lab is devoted to the synthesis and chemical characterization of the dendrimers and glycodendrimers.  This process involves using several chemical techniques such as TLC, chromatography (flash, size exclusion, ion exchange, HPLC), NMR and interpretation of mass spectral data.

In addition to these techniques, additional work is currently underway to investigate the biological properties of the glycodendrimers using ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay).  Once biologically active compounds have been identified, further testing of the compounds will be conducted and will include cell culture toxicity assays and live pathogen assays.
