Dean's Message

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the College of Education website! Thank you for taking time to view this site and learn more about the programs and services we offer. I am very excited about these programs. Our faculty, students, and staff are highly capable, knowledgeable, and resourceful individuals committed to the success of our educational community. We prepare future educators that are actively informed and engaged community leaders, policy makers, teachers, counselors, and administrators.

TEACHing for Change
The mission of the College of Education is to help prepare candidates to serve, teach or work in a variety of educational and community settings. We are dedicated researchers and practitioners interested in helping our candidates successfully enter, matriculate, and become knowledgeable and engaged professionals. The faculty are committed to equity and social justice, academic excellence, and helping individuals achieve their academic and professional goals. Learn more about TEACHing for change.

As we move forward into a 21st century emphasizing technology and globalization, we must also acknowledge and help others understand that we live and work in linguistically, gendered, racially, and economically diverse communities. The College is committed to creating educational opportunities, generating and shaping new or alternative perspectives, and making space for those seeking to gain access within our schools (Pre-K-12, Community College, and Post-Secondary), businesses, and communities throughout the Sacramento region and the state of California, as well as nationally and internationally. Faculty members have a genuine commitment to developing scholars and practitioners who will be able to live and work in the 21st century.

Finally, it is my belief that as educators committed to equity and social justice, we should encourage and promote positive social change in our schools, communities, and at the local, state, and national levels of government and business. My goal is to help faculty and staff create a welcoming teaching, learning, and working environment one that will enable our candidates to acquire the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to be successful. As you peruse our web site, you will learn more about our faculty members research and interests, our programs, our staff and students, and the types of services and opportunities we offer. I look forward to you checking out our site, as well as to you taking time to consider applying for admissions to one of our many programs in the College of Education.
