Fluent in seven languages, Fawzia Keval began her career as a French/English translator, working for the United Nations in Nairobi. After substitute teaching for a short period, she realized that teaching is what she loved.
Fawzia began her teaching career as a high school teacher of French at a private British school. After settling in California, she was drawn to the challenges of teaching students from low income families. Her penchant for languages, cultures and world educational systems serves her well. She began teaching at a Title 1 school that served minority students. Fawzia soon became a "go-to person" at her school when it came to reaching out to the community and teaching English Learners.
Currently, Fawzia is the principal at a large, year round Title 1 school, a position she has held for the last seven years. Serving her diverse community of students is her passion. During her tenure, Prairie Elementary has seen continuous growth in student achievement. Her school has also received several recognition awards for character education and technology implementation.
Seen as a leader in her community, Fawzia is active in promoting education for girls in Kenya as well as among the minority groups in Sacramento. She is interested in promoting women leadership around the world.
