Areas of Research/Scholarly Activity

Dr. Deidre Sessoms is Director of Faculty Research Development and Professor in the College of Education at Sacramento State. A former plant physiologist, Dr. Sessoms’ PhD in science education informs her current work on STEM student success across the K-16 continuum. She advises numerous STEM education projects in the CSU, including the STAR Program (STEM Teacher and Researcher), the Preparing a New Generation of Teachers for California S.D. Bechtel, Jr. funded system-wide initiative, and Next Generation Science Standards implementation in teacher preparation. She has been the principal investigator or co-principal investigator for more than $5 million in STEM education projects funded by the National Science Foundation and other federal and philanthropic organizations.
