2018 Spring Commencement

Sacramento State graduates, their families, and friends are encouraged to leave extra early for commencement ceremonies at Golden 1 Center May 18-19, because of anticipated parking and traffic impacts from the Amgen bicycle race and other events.

The Amgen runs Saturday, May 19, making a loop around the capitol area on L, N, Q, 10th, and 15th streets, from 10:15 a.m. to 1:40 p.m., but closures and impacts will begin well before that. Sacramento city authorities will be closing L Street between 10th and 15th beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, May 18. The event and a concurrent Amgen festival have drawn close to 100,000 attendees historically.

More traffic impacts may be realized from performances at the Community Center Theatre at 13th and L, 8 p.m. on Friday, May 18, and 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 19. There also are events at Memorial Auditorium and the Convention Center during that same time period.

Motorists are urged to add an extra hour-and-a-half to their travel plans. For a detailed map of road closures, click here.
