JOB TITLE: Lead Homework Assistant
DUTIES:

Homework Assistants are the main link between students participating in the Homework Center and Library staff. Their primary responsibility is to assist students, grades K-8th, with their homework and to provide learning activities which reinforce their academic skills. The "Lead" Homework Assistant has the same responsibilities for working with students, but in addition:

  • Supervises registration of students and their parents
  • Supervises Homework Assistants, which includes:
    • assisting them in their work with students
    • helping them develop projects
    • helping them handle difficult students
  • Maintains student records and shares them with library staff and project schools
  • May conduct, or assist librarians in conducting, training for Homework Assistants and volunteers
  • Assists in planning and presenting group programs for students and/or parents
  • Communicates with Library Supervisor/Youth Services Librarian on Center needs, ideas for improvements, etc.
  • Orders supplies as needed
  • May contact parents and teachers in project schools to:
    • publicize Homework Center programs
    • request information on school assignments, computer software, etc.
    • check on student who don't attend Center as scheduled

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • EDUCATIONAL
    • Enrolled in Teacher's education at CSUS(being further along in program than Homework Assistants is desirable)
    • Courses in Bilingual & Multicultural Education
    • Basic knowledge of computers
    • Proficiency in reading and math
    • Proficiency in developing reading and math related activities
    • Speak and understand Spanish, Russian or Southeast Asian language desirable, almost essential
    • Some experience in working with K-8th grade children is desirable

SALARY: $11.00 Hourly
DEADLINE: ASAP
HOURS PER WEEK: 20, 3:00-7:00pm M-Th
