Student Eligibility Criteria

  • Lower-division course work completed
  • GPA:
    2.50 minimum for undergraduates
    3.00 minimum for graduate students
  • Must be enrolled at CSUS for at least one semester before Co-op placement. Some departments prefer that the students complete one semester at CSUS after finishing their Co-op.
  • Must have passing score on the Writing Placement Exam (WPE) before Co-op placement.
  • Upon acceptance of job offer, student will be enrolled in the appropriate course for academic credit.


    Specific Qualifications by College:

    College of Education

    Course requirements for:
    Teacher Education and Child Development: Students must complete a "Petition for Cooperative Education" and have it signed by the faculty coordinator, who will then register them for units.


    College of Business Administration

    College of Arts and Letters

    Course requirements for:
    English: Must have successfully completed Advanced Composition (English 120A).


    College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies

    Course requirements for: 
    Environmental Studies:
    • Minimum 3.0 GPA, in the major.
    • Must have completed at least (6) six upper division units with at least a B- average in the major.
    • Must successfully complete at least (2) two courses from BIOS 160, ENVS 111, ENVS 112, ENVS 118, ENVS 120, ENVS 124 or ENVS 169B.

    (These requirements are negotiable.)



    College of Engineering and Computer Science

    Course requirements for:
    Computer Science:
    • Must be a Computer Science major, not Pre-Computer Science.
    • Must have successfully completed CSC 130, CSC 131, CSC 133 or CSC 134. [Note:Successful completion of CSC 138 is a plus]

      Graduates:

    • Must be classified graduate students.
    • Must have successfully completed (3) three graduate (200 level) classes completed before participating in Co-op.
      (Graduates with a BA/BS in Computer Science may be qualified upon becoming a classified graduate student. Department approval required.)
    Electrical and
    Electronic Engineering:
    Students should have completed their junior year.
    Computer Engineering: Students must have successfully completed CPE 166 and CPE 185.


    College of Health and Human Services

    Course requirements for:
    Nursing:
    • Students will be invited to apply after completion of their second semester.
    • Students must attend an Orientation Session specifically hosted for nursing students. For details call Co-op Coordinator for College of Health and Human Services.
    Physical Education: Students must obtain a faculty recommendation from their major emphasis advisor.
 
Co-op Office Information
