How to Maximize Your Co-op Search

  1. Keep your Co-op Coordinator informed of any changes - i.e., class schedule, graduation date , employment or interest in a Co-op position. Also let your Co-op Coordinator know when a employer contacts you or WHEN YOU GET A JOB.
  2. Review job listings on this web site. If you find positions that interests you, send an e-mail to your Co-op Coordinator so that your resume can be forwarded to appropriate companies.
  3. Research companies. Submit a list of companies you are interested in with the following information: Name of company, address with zip code, phone number and contact person.
  4. Keep your resume current and on file with your Coordinator.
  5. Prepare for your interviews. Find out about the company and the position before you go to an interview. For information, review the company files in the Co-op Office, search the Internet, and contact your Co-op Coordinator.
  6. E-mail your updated resume as a word attachment to your Co-op Coordinator.
  7. Make sure your Co-op Coordinator has your current e-mail address and that you check your e-mail several times each week.
  8. Give your Co-op Coordinator your current class schedule.
  9. Improve your computer skills. Minimum requirements include proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  10. Prepare a generic cover letter, a list of references, and a writing sample. Provide your Co-op Coordinator with a copy when an employer requests these as part of the application process.
  11. Return all phone calls from employers and your Co-op Coordinator promptly.
