The Graphic Design degree is multi-disciplinary and provides students with the creative, technical and communication skills required in one of today's fastest growing fields. Students in the program will learn to solve visual communication problems through courses in art, communication studies, art history, photography, business, and design fundamentals.

The Graphic Design major offers a comprehensive program of study, starting with basic principles through final production. Since Graphic Design is an aesthetic and technical discipline, students will learn to apply theories and history in the creation of visual and written information. Students in Graphic Design use technology as an interrelated part of visual communication.

All of the full and part-time faculty in the program have extensive expertise in the field and continue to work in the profession. Field trips and guest instructors add further exposure to professional practice and methods. Students are also encouraged to exhibit their work on campus. National competitions, and community and campus design projects are integrated into the program's course work to encourage student visibility in the industry.

Work experience is highly valued in the field of graphic design and internships for credit are promoted in all aspects of the field. Faculty coordinate a wide range of internships at highly respected design studios. The following are examples of existing internships for students: advertising agencies, public relations firms, corporate design departments, newspapers, magazines, printing and paper companies, campus organizations, and screen media agencies, including TV, multimedia, web and informational graphic firms.

The graphic design program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
