Internships are 3 units of credit for 10 hours a week for 15 weeks. (150 hours)

An internship is an elective that is highly recommended to expand your learning experience. It may be paid or non-paid.

If the program has internships available they will be posted outside
Mariposa – Room 5009. If there are none posted you will need to find your own internship.

Please read and follow the directions carefully.

The internship can be paid or non-paid.

Prerequisites:
Upper Division Status GPA 2.5
Classes required before: GPHD 130 and 135.
End of your junior year or after.

To receive credit for an internship you will need to do the following:

  • Discuss with your future employer/professional supervisor the terms, hours and responsibilities you will have.
  • Turn in a letter (on their letterhead) stating the internship responsibilities and job requirements from your employer. Also include the number of hours you will be expected to work each week and that a total of 150 hours is necessary to receive 3 units of credit.
  • After the internship coordinator receives the letter prior to registration, you may then register for GPHD 195
  • During the first two weeks of class, the internship coordinator receives an official attendance sheet. Only those with their letters turned in will remain in the class; all others will be dropped.
  • Over the course of the semester keep a one-inch binder of your time sheets, and samples of work that you were involved with. Include sketches, variations, meeting notes, etc.
  • To conclude the semester, a 1inch binder is to be kept that contains a time record of your hours worked, with samples of designs, production, etc. Please include all work – successes and failures – so your improvements are recognized.
  • To conclude the semester, write a letter stating what you learned and
evaluate the person you interned for (See sample binder for an example).
  • Finally, your employer will need to provide a letter stating that you completed the number of hours and that you satisfactorily accomplished your job requirements.
  • The final binder will need to be turned in a week prior to the conclusion of the semester. This is a credit/no credit class.

We wish you a successful and engaging internship. Please keep in touch.
