Catherine Reyes
Hometown: Milpitas, California
Major: Graphic Design. Class of 2007.
Background: Reyes’ family emigrated from the Philippines when she was just a year old. She grew up in the Bay Area, attending Milpitas High School where she was in student government and concentrated on her passion. “I focused a lot on art in high school.” She now specializes in print work and will graduate cum laude from Sacramento State.
Influences: “My mom’s a big influence. She’s the one who actually told me to take this career direction.”
Highlight: “The best thing I have liked about the campus environment is the diversity between both students and faculty. I’ve had classmates of all walks of life and I’ve learned from professors who have a wide range of cultural backgrounds. Their different experiences and teaching styles have given me a well-rounded education.”
Proudest Accomplishment: Beating out six other candidates to get an internship as a student designer in the University Union Marketing Department. “It was the closest thing I’ve ever had to an actual career interview.”
Destination:
Will go back home and look for a job in San Francisco. “The field is really big there and that’s where a lot of great designers come from.”
