Carlos Roman
Hometown: Sacramento
Major: Biological Sciences. Class of 2005.
Background: Tutor in biology, chemistry, math and physics
for the College Assistance Migrant Program, which helps students from
migrant and seasonal farmworker backgrounds. Accepted to medical school
for fall 2005.
Changes: “As a freshman, I had this dream of going
to medical school, but I didn’t know how to go about it. The faculty
and staff here showed me. They took an interest in me and showed me the
importance of teamwork and how to get along with others. I’m more
mature as a student now.”
Highlight: “The best part about Sac State is the
wide diversity of students on this campus, not just in terms of ethnicity
but also age. My favorite classes have been those with students in their
40s, 50s and 60s. I had a history class where we talked about the Civil
Rights Movement. There were students in the class who lived in that era
and they shared what they went through.”
Destination:
“I’m going to be a doctor. I’ll be able to respect people
of all kinds because that’s what I was exposed to at Sac State.”
