Develop Community Support
A university
can become a destination campus only after it has earned the respect and
admiration of its own community. Sacramento State has done that. Our 180,000
alumni are immensely grateful for the high-quality education they received
at our institution. The region views the University as a major asset.
We can now raise the bar in communicating our profile of excellence to
the public within and beyond the Sacramento Region, developing a larger
advocacy base to promote our current strengths and aspirations, and winning
the confidence of a broad spectrum of donors whose financial support represents
an investment in our promise and in the region's future.
Through Destination 2010 we will develop community support by:
Increasing our visibility
Destination campuses thrive on reputations for excellence, integrity and
promise. Sacramento State's challenge is to communicate both our current
strengths and our aspirations to audiences throughout the Sacramento Region,
California and the West.
Goals:
- Develop
consistency in the public presentation of the University.
- Communicate
more information about the University's faculty, staff, students and
distinguished alumni.
- Communicate
our strengths and aspirations more clearly to the region.
PROGRESS
Expanding
our advocacy base
Behind great universities are great friends. We seek to strengthen our
base of advocates — people who take pride in and publicly cheer
our accomplishments, who encourage students to enroll at Sacramento State,
who understand that a strong university is a major component of regional
development. We look to many friends to speak for us — our faculty
and staff, our students, business and political leaders and, particularly,
our alumni.
Goals:
- Communicate with
and honor our alumni publicly.
- Increase membership
in the Alumni Association.
- Communicate to
business and political leaders our desire to be an active partner in
regional development.
PROGRESS
Encouraging
broader community financial support
As we become known for excellence in all that we do, we encourage investment
in our promise. Financial support of our University takes many forms —
endowed scholarships, professorships, collections and programs, and support
of research and of major capital projects. It comes from individuals,
foundations, businesses and corporations. In short, financial support
is among the highest of compliments that donors can give Sacramento State.
Goals:
- Increase
the level of private giving to the University in a manner that has lasting
impact.
- Increase
the level of federal and state funding of University research, programming
and planning grants.
- Increase
the number of corporate partnerships aimed at moving the campus forward.
