Building state-of-the-art campus-life facilities

Goal: Construct a major recreation, wellness and sports complex.

Progress:

  • A generous gift of $10 million from Alex and Faye Spanos has provided impetus for the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex, which will include a Recreation and Wellness Center, an Arena, a new field house and the renovation of the football stadium.
  • Funding campaigns have begun for the entire complex of facilities and about $26 million in private support has been raised.
  • In 2003, Sacramento State students approved by referendum an additional fee dedicated to the construction of a modern Recreation and Wellness Center. Architectural work is underway on the project.
  • Ground has been broken for the Broad Athletic Facility — a new field house for Intercollegiate Athletics.
  • The University is developing plans for a 6,000- to 8,000 - seat indoor arena.
