What is your favorite part about working at the PRIDE Center?
My favorite part about working at the PRIDE Center is knowing the work I'm doing is for an incredibly important cause; that I am helping others gain knowledge about the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex community. Also, that I'm helping create a better community and atmosphere for LGBTQI people at Sac State.
What is something unique that you bring to the PRIDE Center team?
I think something i bring to the team is an interest in looking beyond the barriers to the LGBTQQIAPF community and trying to see how they intersect with other identities such as race, ethnicity, religion, gender, class, or culture.
What do you think is the most useful resource the PRIDE Center provides, and why?
I think the most useful resource the PRIDE Center provides is the panels. I feel panels set up a great space to educate people about issues they may not know about and break down barriers. They create a space where everyone involved can take something away and ask questions or hear stories and perspectives they may not otherwise be exposed to in their lives.
Do you have a hang-out spot on campus? Where!?
My favorite place to hang-out on campus is definitely the Honors Lounge. Being in the Honors GE Program, I'm lucky to have a place where I can come and just relax between classes, study, or get help on coursework from older Honors students who have taken all the classes I'm taking with all the same professors. From the beginning, everyone has been so comfortable with each other and so friendly. I think having a really supportive community like that is vital to being successful in college.
What is your favorite hang-out spot in Sacramento?
So far, one of my favorite places I've been to in Sac is Queen Sheba's Restaurant on Wednesday nights. They have an open mic there where people come to perform music and spoken word and do stand-up comedy. It's a totally different atmosphere than open mics from my hometown and the people there are so warm and welcoming.
What was your favorite childhood cartoon/TV show?
My favorite childhood T.V. show would have to be Hey Arnold! or The Wild Thornberrys. I loved Arnold's street-smarts and all the adventures the Thornberrys went on, exploring different cultures.
