These presentations are meant to supplement classroom curriculum and educate the campus community about LGBTQIA experiences by: 1) giving historical and contemporary contexts to the community and its development, 2) elevating and sharing LGBTQIA narratives, 2) familiarizing folks with LGBTQIA cultures, practices, and terminology.

A brief introduction to the Center, its mission and programs. This presentation can be completed in 15-20 minutes.

Identity Narratives
Center staff and volunteers serve on a panel and share a narrative of their own identity development. The initial questions the panel answers is: describe the events, processes, thoughts, etc., that contributed to your current LGBTQIA identities, and describe what your current identities mean to you. Following is an opportunity for Q&A with the audience. This presentation can be completed in 50 minutes or 1 hour and 15 minutes.

LGBT History in the U.S.
Center staff give a lecture on the history of the “LGBTQ community,” centering on three themes: 1) community formation, 2) oppression, and 3) resistance. The presentation draws from dominant research and writing in the field of history, and thusly approaches the subject through a dominant, Western historical lens. Includes some YouTube videos with sound. This presentation can be completed in 50 minutes or 1 hour and 15 minutes.
