Which flu viruses does this season’s vaccine protect against?

Flu vaccines are designed to protect against the influenza viruses that experts predict will be the most common during the up-coming season. Three kinds of influenza viruses commonly circulate among people today: Influenza A (H1N1) viruses, influenza A (H3N2) viruses, and influenza B viruses. Each year, one flu virus of each kind is used to produce seasonal influenza vaccine.

For 2017-18, the four-component vaccines will contain:

  • A/Singapore/GP1908/2015 IVR-180 (H1N1)
  • A/Singapore/GP2050/2015 (H3N2)
  • B/Utah/9/2014
  • B/Hong Kong/259/2010

Please continue to check SHCS website for information on when the vaccine is available.
