BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION MINOR
Risk Management and Insurance Concentration

The minor in Risk Management and Insurance is designed for students interested in supplementing their non-business majors with a broad overview of business concepts and specifically with risk management principles and concepts as applied in their various disciplines. Majors in Communication Studies, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Nursing, Criminal Justice, and Engineering may find the minor especially beneficial.

A student wishing to minor in Risk Management and Insurance must file a Minor request petition (obtained in the Degree Programs Center). At least nine (9) upper division units must be taken in residence.

To earn a minor in Risk Management and Insurance, a student must have a minimum 2.0 (“C” average) grade point average in the courses presented for the minor, with a minimum acceptable grade for any course being
a “C-”.

NOTE: All business minors shall demonstrate computer literacy and competency prior to taking 100-level business courses. The computer literacy requirement may be satisfied by either: 1) Completing MIS 1A, 1B, and 1C or equivalent coursework; or 2) Passing the MIS Challenge Exams. Challenge Exam dates are posted at www.csus.edu/mis1abc.

MIS 1A - Microcomputer Hardware and Software
MIS 1B - Spreadsheets
MIS 1C - Word Processing and Presentation Graphics

REQUIRED COURSES:
MGMT 20* - Introduction to Business
MGMT 138 - Principles of Risk Management and Insurance
MGMT 139 - Business Property & Liability Insurance (MGMT 138 or permission of instructor)
MGMT 139B - Employee Benefits (MGMT 138 or permission of instructor)

*Business majors may substitute an upper-division business course with the approval of the Chair of the Department of Management.

(There are no elective courses for the Risk Management and Insurance minor)
