UNDERGRADUATE ADVISING

Advising in the CBA is a dual activity between the DPC and the College's faculty. For answers relating to the Computer Literacy, Pre-Major, and Major Programs Requirements, or to the College's policies and procedures, you need to contact the DPC. Please see the "Appointment Guidelines" section below for important information.

Questions relating to concentrations, course selection within the concentrations, and career information, should be addressed to your faculty advisor. Go to CBA Faculty Career Advisors or pick up a copy of the list at the DPC office (Tahoe 1030).

It is recommended that you thoroughly familiarize yourself with the catalog that you are assigned. Used properly, you will find it a valuable tool as you proceed through your program. You should maintain your personal academic records, such as transcripts and any documents pertinent to your stay here, in your own academic file.

The Counselors in the DPC evaluate business students' academic records to determine course transfer credit. When you submit unofficial copies of your college transcripts to the DPC, your records will be evaluated and you will be sent a Business Program Review, indicating credit for Business Administration courses. The Business Program Review is very important because you may not enroll in 100-level courses until you qualify.

APPOINTMENT GUIDELINES

Appointments are scheduled beginning the last Monday of each month for the following month. Call early, as our appointment calendar fills up quickly. We meet with students interested in finding out the status of their degree or in planning their curriculum, as well as students on Academic Probation.

Only students who are registered as a Business Pre-Major or Business Major in CASPER may schedule an individual appointment with a Degree Programs Center Academic Counselor. All other students (e.g., Undeclared Majors) may stop by the DPC for over the counter (informal) advising. By submitting a Change of Status form to the DPC, you can register as a Business Pre-Major or Major (upon approval of the form by a DPC Counselor); our Counselors will evaluate your petition and send you a response via U.S. mail. The deadlines for submitting Change of Status Petitions are October 1st for the following Spring Semester, and March 1st for the following Fall Semester.

It may be difficult to obtain an individual appointment with a DPC Academic Counselor. Please be patient- there are over 4500 undergraduate Business students at Sac State, and only 3 DPC Counselors!

We are working hard to open up more appointment slots for Business Pre-Majors and Majors. Consider stopping by the DPC for over the counter advising for QUICK questions, emailing us your question, or calling in during our Phone-In Hours. If you are on Academic Probation, you may also sign-up for a Group Advising Session.

In order for our Counselors to advise you correctly, be sure you have arranged for copies of your transcripts from all colleges attended, other than CSUS, to be sent to the DPC. Unofficial copies are OK. Transcripts should be submitted in chronological order. You may print out online copies and drop the off at 1030 Tahoe Hall, or mail them to our office:

As a courtesy, if you are not able to attend your scheduled appointment, please call our office at (916) 278-6771, so that we may open your appointment slot to another student.

Check out the Frequently Asked Questions page on our website. Also, look for forms such as the Change of Status and Graduation Petition our Handouts and Forms page- this may save you a trip to the DPC. Information about Concentrations and Business Minors is also available on-line.

Please do not wait until the last minute (e.g., your last semester at CSUS) to request an appointment with a DPC Counselor. We want to make sure you are on track early in your academic career. Remember, it may take a while to obtain an appointment with one of our Counselors, so please plan ahead and help us to help you! Thank you.
