Every semester, our students present productions that span the generations of past and present influences, shaping theatre in America and around the world. Our students experience the theatre from a historical conception, through design and construction to the end result: a successful public presentation that showcases their talents and becomes an important memory of their tenure at Sacramento State. Our program combines academics with hands-on training and our students pride themselves in their ability to manage and produce performances that not only entertain but are proof they are capable of emulating the professional quality which drew their interest towards the theatre. Each semester we are excited by the possibilities, the imagination and the commitment our students give to this program and to their peers and as a department, our goal is to provide every opportunity for students to succeed as performers, managers and professionals.

Dance and all of its interpretations, venues and forms, is explored in our program. From the basic classical elements through modern, reactive and improvisational productions, our students thrive on the creative possibilities set before them, whether it is in choreography, performance design or taking part on stage as a member of a dance concert. Dancers experience the unique venue of stage concerts, yet their skills and the basic movement knowledge overlaps elements of theatre, thus combining these elements into shows that highlight the beauty of movement,form and rhythm. Faculty in our department embrace a diverse background, both personally and professionally and are committed to transferring these ideals and creative experiences to our students. Our students do not dance as though no one is looking: they dance because this art form will not let them simply sit and watch.
