Showers passes through Zion looking for work and food.  C.C. takes an immediate liking to Buddy, relating to him--and his challenges--in ways no one else can. The two become close friends and C.C. soon finds himself as Buddy's mentor and teacher.  When the well-meaning town folk gain knowledge of C.C.’s former occupation however, everything changes, leading to a horrible tragedy.

GUYS AND DOLLS

Music and Lyrics by Frank Loesser

Book by Jo Sterling and Abe Burrows

Directed by Ed Brazo

November 9 - 20, 2016

University Theatre, Shasta Hall

We’re in New York City, 1950’s, where Nathan Detriot is trying to fend off the marriage plans of the featured attraction at the Hot Box Nightclub, Miss Adelaide.  They have been engaged for 14 years.  But his dedication to organizing the oldest-established floating crap game has always been his good excuse for postponement.  Then there’s the handsome, big time gambler, Sky Masterson who places a bet that he will succeed in getting prim Miss Sarah Brown, head of the “Save-A-Soul” mission to come with him for dinner in Cuba.  Sky succeeds but when they return to New York City, they discover that Nathan has organized the crap game to be held in the mission itself.  Then Sky bets the biggest bet of all.  If he wins, all the gamblers have to attend the next day’s prayer meeting at the mission. Sky wins, fills the mission with all the “high-rollers” only to discover that he is in love with Sarah.  Sky joins the mission, marries Sarah and after 14 years, Nathan and Adelaide are joined in a double wedding ceremony.

James and the Giant Peach

JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH

Written by Roald Dahl

Adapted by Richard R. George

Directed by Richard Bay

April 5 - 16, 2017

University Theatre, Shasta Hall

A lonely boy living with two cruel aunts finds an escape in the most unexpected place in James and the Giant Peach.

California State University Sacramento Theatre and Dance Department is presenting Richard R. George's dramatization of Roald Dahl's classic .

That peachy tale begins when magic crystals James accidentally drops under a peach tree causes one peach to grow to the size of a house. The giant fruit becomes a moneymaking attraction for his aunts until James finds his way Inside the peach. There he becomes part of a family of seven oversized insects. When the peach falls off the tree, his aunts are literally crushed and James is off to adventure.

The play will incorporate actors, large scale puppets, dancers, and Roald Dahl’s fantastical words to tell this wonderful story to children and adults alike. Words like: lickswishy, delumptious,  uckyslush, or scrumdiddlyumtious.  Everyone has heard at least one of these marvelous words.  After all, Roald Dahl is one of the greatest storytellers for children of the 20th century.

”It's very important that we preserve the tradition of allowing young children to run free with their imaginations and magic and imagination are the same thing.” - Steven Spielberg

James and the Giant Peach will be a magical production for any age!  Period!
