The Department of Theatre & Dance is located in Shasta Hall near the J Street entrance of the campus with convenient parking for our students and patrons. This facility includes two theatres which are utilized for our productions.
The University Theatre is a 423 seat proscenium theatre used for large scale dramatic productions and our musical offerings. It is also used by the Music Department for opera productions, the community and touring groups. The stage is forty feet wide by thirty-four feet deep with ample wing space. It is equipped with an orchestra pit, trapped stage floor, thirty-one line fly system, an ETC Obsession computer lighting board, 288 dimmers. The stage has direct access to the scene shop and lighting lab.
The Playwright's Theatre is an octagonal shaped flexible space theatre that can be configured for the theatre in the round or three-quarter thrust staging arrangements. In full arena the theatre seats 200 patrons and drops to 150 for three-quarter seating. It is equipped with trapped stage, full lighting grid and catwalk, an ETC Express 48/96 lighting console and direct access to the scene shop.
The Studio Theatre is a 60 seat proscenium theatre located, near the center of the campus, between the Library and Music Building. It is used for student directed one-act productions as well as experimental original student written and directed one-act and full length productions.
Dancespace, Solano Hall 1010is a fully equipped dance studio and performance space with fixed theatre seating for 100. It is equipped with a sprung dance floor, dressing room, ETC 24/48 lighting console, sound system, and drapery plus cyclorama for performances.
Shasta Hall also includes a 4,000 sq. ft. Scene Shop equipped with a 50 ft. wide retractable paint frame, Costume Shop, a Lighting Lab, Makeup Lab, Puppetry Lab, Digital Design Studio and two Acting and Rehearsal Studios. The space under the scene shop and University Theatre stage provides for ample storage of scenery and props.
