After celebrating our Golden 50th anniversary last year, the Department of Theatre and Dance returns this academic year with renewed vigor and fantastic programs for our students, the university and the community at large. Last year we paid homage to those who help make this dynamic program and give it the foundation on which it currently stands. This year we welcome new faculty, Assistant Professor Ron Reisner, Full-time Lecturer Prof. Melissa Wynn and Part-time Professor Jim Anderson, Artistic Director of the Short Repertory Theater, as they carry the torch forward with those who call this department home.
We open our season with NORTH STAR by Gloria Bond Clunie directed by Dr. Melinda Wilson. Dr. Wilson selected this play to open our season because October 16, 2007 marks the 40th anniversary of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speaking on the Sacramento State campus. Sacramento/Black Art of Dance will then present NUBIAN VISIONS in MOVEMENT directed by Dr. Linda Goodrich and Prof. Melissa Wynn. We continue this year with LOOSE KNIT by Theresa Rebeck and directed by Prof. Michelle Felten, and we end the Fall semester with AFGHAN WOMEN by William Mastrosimone, directed by graduate student Karen Nylund and the always anticipated Faculty Dance Concert, DANCE/SITES directed by Prof. Lorelei Bayne.
Spring Semester will open with Sacramento/Black Art of Dance in February, 42nd STREET directed by Prof. Ed Brazo in March, LORCA IN A GREEN DRESS directed by Manuel Pickett and our ONE ACT FESTIVAL directed by Prof. Jim Anderson of the Short Repertory Company in April. We will close the season in May with the SENIOR DANCE CONCERT directed by Prof. Lorelei Bayne. So make sure you visit our website as we continue to update and build a better home.
I want to thank all of you for your support and participation in all of our programs. Let’s act, dance and sing our way into the next 50 years.
Linda S. Goodrich , Chair
