Master of Arts
Goals and Objectives

Achievement of a broad grasp of the spectrum of Theatre Arts skills, the minimum level of which shall be that of the undergraduate major.
Preparation in advanced techniques of research and criticism sufficient to foster independent inquiry and generate scholarly work in the culminating projects
Historical study of texts, production and theory appropriate to future graduate studies beyond the M. A. or to teachers of high school and community college students
Preparation in advanced techniques in the various area specialties: directing, acting, design (scenic, costume, lighting), and playwriting appropriate to future practitioners of the arts and to future professional training
Students may choose to emphasize in either historical or technical areas, but pursue both goals

I wanted the relative freedom and creativity of creating a special major MA program. My academic training was multi-disciplinary, relevant to contemporary race and ethnicity studies, appropriate to local community theatre work, and directly related to my present work.
