EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

TEACHING ASSOCIATES AND TESOL TEACHING ASSOCIATES

The English Department provides opportunities for a limited number of students to gain experience teaching at the college level. Teaching Associates teach a section of English 1A and TESOL Teaching Associates teach a section of English 2A (for ESL students). Applicants must be currently enrolled graduate students pursuing the M.A. in English or TESOL. TA applicants must have completed English 220A by the end of the semester during which they are applying. TESOL TA applicants must have completed English 200D, 400B, and one TESOL course by the end of the semester during which they are applying. Selections for TA positions are determined by the English Department's Personnel Committee. Selections for TESOL Tas are determined by a committee of representatives from the Learning Skills Center and the English Department's TESOL and Personnel Committees. Pay for these positions is currently $458.00 per month.

STAFF TUTORS

The English Department provides opportunities for five students to gain experience as tutors at the college level. Applicants must be currently enrolled graduate students or English majors in the last semester of their senior year who have applied for admission to the Graduate Program. Applicants must have completed English 195A/410A at the end of the semester during which they are applying. Selections for Staff Tutor are determined by the department's Personnel Committee. Pay for these positions is $400.00 per month.

STUDENT ASSISTANTS

The English Department hires a limited number of students to help with clerical tasks in the department offices. Both undergraduate and graduate English majors are eligible to apply. Selections for student assistantships are determined by application to the department Personnel Committee. Pay for these positions is $6.00 per hour.
