Denzel Washington was born in  the  beautiful city of Mt. Vernon, NY on the day December 28, 1954. Denzel was named after his father Denzel Sr. who was named after the doctor who delivered him (his father).

According to several articles, cinema.com        Denzel obtained his spiritual tendencies from attending his father’s Pentecostal church and spending time at his mother’s beauty shop. It was at the age of eleven when he decided to obtain a job and show everyone of his great capacity on managing responsibilities. He worked after school at several barber shops and beauty shops. However he couldn’t stay there for a long time because at the age of fourteen his parents got divorced.

As a result of their divorce, his older sister and he were sent to school, this was to keep them off trouble and to prevent them from any harm during their parent’s separation. After graduating high school, Denzel decides to attend the New York Fordham University.  There he planned to study medicine however it didn't took him much time to change his major, soon he began to study the art of storytelling in journalism; he was also involved in several theater acts and drama productions from his school. Soon after he graduated with a B.A. in Journalism and headed on to San Francisco and  won a scholarship at the American Conservatory Theater.

Afterwards  he decides to put in practice what he learned and as his debut he participates in a television program of NBC channel called "Carbon copy". It is then when he is asked to work for several Hollywood producers. Later on his performance earned him a number of honors, including a Best Actor Golden Globe and a Best Actor Oscar nomination.

In spite of staying so busy in Hollywood, Denzel has managed to maintain his most challenging role as a husband and father. He lives in the Beverly Hills area of Los Angeles, with his wife Pauletta Pearson, who he's been with for over 20 years along with his four children, John David, (who now attends Morehouse University and plays football there), Katia, Malcolm (named after Malcolm X) and Olivia (twins).
