The TESOL Minor can be taken by any student who is not an English major. It comprises six required courses (18 units) which must all be taken at California State University, Sacramento.
Any undergraduate student who is not an English major may complete the TESOL Minor. Q: What are the benefits of training to teach English to speakers of other languages? A: One of the most common opportunities to live and work overseas is to teach English. TESOL program training can make you more competitive for jobs in language schools as well as for other types of teaching opportunities such as the Japan Exchange & Teaching (JET) Program or Fulbright Teaching Assistantships. Q: I'm an English major. Can I take the TESOL Minor? A: No, English majors cannot take a minor that's offered throught the English Deparmtent. However, you can complete the TESOL Certificate--Option A, which is similar to the Minor. Q: Can I count courses from my major or other programs towards the minor? A: Courses being applied to other degree programs cannot also be applied to the TESOL Minor. Q: The TESOL Program also offers a Certificate in TESOL. Can I take both the Certificate and the Minor? A: Yes, non-English majors can combine the TESOL Certificate--Option A with the TESOL Minor. The two programs are designed so that students can complete a university/ department requirement for a minor while also earning a qualification which is recognized and valued by overseas employers of English language teachers. However, the TESOL Certificate will only be issued to students who complete the required 15 units with a grade of B or better in each course. Q: In what order should I take the courses?
