 capital buildingSacramento (population 467,343) is California’s capitol city and the regional political center of the world’s fifth largest economy.  It is the cultural, business, governmental, and educational center of a six county metropolitan region.  Sacramento’s businesses, transportation system, housing, and municipal facilities serve the needs of 2 million people.

Sacramento is located 85 miles northeast of San Francisco, 383 miles north of Los Angeles and 100 miles southwest of Lake Tahoe at an elevation of 17 feet.

The cost of living in Sacramento is just slightly higher than the national average with a median family income of $33,087. In 2001, the largest share of the Greater Sacramento Area employment base was represented by the services sector.  Currently the unemployment rate for the county stands at approximately 5.5%.

in Sacramento County, 27 percent of the population has a bachelors or masters degree.  Individuals with associate degrees bring the total to 35 percent and a total of 61 percent have some college education.  The high school graduation rate is 77 percent.
