Student Advising

ENVS majors and minors should meet with Dr. Foran at least once a year for advising regarding courses and other major-related issues.  Group advising sessions will be held Mondays from 10 - 11 and Thursdays from 4:30 - 5:30 in Amador 554C. Advising is available by appointment (sign-up) only. You may sign up for an advising session on the sign-up sheets outside of the ENVS office (554A Amador Hall), by calling the office at 278-6620, or by emailing Anne Montgomery.

Dr. Forans' office hours are Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:00 - 4:30, in Amador 554D.

All ENVS majors must read the Undergraduate Handbook in its entirety. There are also a number of forms in the Handbook that need to be submitted to the Department Office.

Environmental Studies Internship

All majors are required to intern for a semester with an approved governmental agency, nonprofit or advocacy group, or environmental organization.  Students are asked to read the following packet, meet with their faculty advisor, then submit the required paperwork to the Department Office, Amador Hall 554A.

Commencement Information

Winter 2014 Commencement will be held in the Sleep Train Arena on Friday, December 19th, at 12 pm..

Students of senior standing who wish to participate in the graduation ceremonies can register online at the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies website.

Career Center Contact for ENVS Students

The Career Center is open for all Environmental Studies majors, and counselors are on hand to speak with students about anything job-related:  writing a resume, how to find an internship, summer employment, and finding a job after graduation.  The Career Center is located on the second floor of Lassen Hall.


Patrick James Dugal Scholarship

To honor the memory of Patrick James Dugal, the Dugal family has established a scholarship for students pursuing a profession in the Environmental Studies field.

Patrick was a full-time CSUS student working toward a degree in Environmental Studies. He was a serious student who was involved in the community and had a strong commitment to environmental matters. He has been described by his professors as a bright presence, cheerful, friendly, optimistic, articulate and dedicated.  Patrick lost his courageous battle against cancer in January 2005.

We will award up to three $5000 scholarships for the 2015-2016 academic year. Submission deadline is February 27, 2015. See the full announcement here.

Scholarship Details:

  • Available to Environmental Studies Majors of Junior or Senior status.
  • Student must have at least a 3.0 overall GPA.
  • Student must be enrolled full time at the time of award disbursement.
  • Student must submit completed application and an essay of up to 300 words describing the environmental issue s/he cares about the most, his/her professional goals, and how the scholarship will help the attainment of those goals.
  • Scholarship applications can be turned in to Amador Hall 554A.
