CSUS Student Wins Sustainability Award for Aquaponics Project

Nelson Mmbando took FIRST PLACE in the 2014 This Way to Sustainability IX Higher Education Greenie Award competition at CSU Chico in March.

Based on what he learned from CSUS faculty, Nelson designed and built his own aquaponics system at home.

Nelson plans to take the technology back to his home country of Tanzania.

Environmental Studies Sustainability Project

Professors Dudley Burton and Brook Murphy have created an aquaponics system at the campus' University's Sustainable Technology Outdoor Research Center (STORC). The project was featured in a Sacramento Bee article as well as in Sac State News.

Department Changes

The Department of Environmental Studies is very pleased to announce the hire of our new chair, Dr. Jeffery Foran.  Dr. Foran assumed his role as department chair on July 31.  We thank Dr. Dudley Burton, our outgoing chair who has served in that role since 2001.  Dr. Burton will be teaching full-time with the department and looks forward to working closely with Dr. Foran for a smooth transition.

If you are a new major admitted for fall 2013, and have not attended one of Admission's formal orientation seminars, please call the department office (916-278-6620) for an advising session. It is important to meet with your faculty advisor at least once during each semester.
