History and Program Assessment

HISTORY OF SUMMER BRIDGE

The history of the EOP Summer Bridge program begins at Sacramento State in 1984. The campus was one of the sites chosen to pilot the Summer Bridge Program. The primary mission of the program was, and continues to be, to assist first-time EOP freshmen in their transition from high school to college by focusing on the academic, personal, and social development of each Summer Bridge student. Today, the program serves approximately 150 students each summer. The majorities of the participants come from low-income backgrounds and are also the first in their family to attend college.

PROGRAM ASSESSSMENT

The positive impact of the EOP Summer Bridge program on participants is provided in the Sacramento State Office of Institutional Summary Report (Fall 1996 to Fall 2006). To access the report, please click at the following link: SB Program Assessment Summary Report.pdf

The report concludes the following:

arrow_bullet Summer Bridge participants have gained higher good standing rates than their peers who came from much better academic backgrounds.
